It’s a shame because her characters in TOS were pretty cool, but they definitely failed in their attempt to replicate the charming curmudgeon that was Leonard McCoy.

Especially given all the weirdness around Crusher’s exit from the story (and Gates McFadden’s exit from the cast), I try to just ignore the entire doctors-in-the-second-season situation.

Ah, Ro Laren. The one good thing to come out of the Cardassian occupation was that they bread all the ugly out of the Bajoran women.
Or it could be bias on the part of the casting directors. I’m fine with it either way.

I finally got around to catching the last Hunger Games yesterday, and Michelle Forbes is in it. My first reaction was, “Got an older, sassier Ro Laren in this flick!” Second reaction, “More seasoned Ro Laren is still rockin’ it.”

I agree. Her character just didn’t jive at all with the rest of the TNG crew. Sometimes I wonder if it was her age, but Picard was older and he works perfectly. And with the doctor being the only person on board who could overrule the captain, her age/seniority wasn’t the problem. Then sometimes I wonder if it's her really stern, kinda stick-in-the-mud attitude, but there are other characters who exhibit similar traits. I don't know, it's just a bunch of little things, but they all add up to her not being sci-fi enough for me.
Gates McFadden was an amazing doctor, though. :)

Pretty awesome mother, too. We forget now, almost 30 years later, that Bev was a pretty revolutionary character on American TV at the time: a positive portrayal of a single mother who was both a good parent with a successful career, and very little of her time on screen ever involved looking for a man.

She’s the reason I dislike season 2. She just always seemed like she had a stick up her ass. Probably my least favorite character on TNG.
And, as was already mentioned, Crusher was quite the looker.
From a character standpoint, probably my second favorite doctor, outside of Phlox from Enterprise.

I remember having a Crusher/Pulaski conversation on here with you before, and I’m still convinced of what I said then: she was a good character idea poorly written, and for whom the plots were not written. Scene calls for a compassionate “mama bear” doctor? Ha ha, fuck you - this character is a prickly veteran technician and actual firm professional doctor that everybody acts as if is a “mama bear” for no reason. Two competing arch-stereotypes of doctor with no meshing between them. Asshole or even just prickly doctors can be really great (see Cox on Scrubs, House) but the writers have to all be on board with writing for a Bones - I think some of them were a little too starry-eyed starting out (this is the future! everyone is more compassionate and pure toward their fellow man) that they allowed themselves to forget Drama Writing 201.

holy crap I never watched star trek but have been working my way through. I HATED HER! Everytime she was on screen was some terrible attitude from her! I was yelling at the TV “THATS THE CAPTAIN YOU ARE TALKING TO JERK!!!”
I was glad when she was gone also Crusher is a babe.
